GEBERT RÜF STIFTUNG
GEBERT RÜF STIFTUNG supports high-quality innovative projects submitted from outside the foundation that meet the latter's support criteria to an above-average extent. Selection is tough owing to the large number of applications submitted. The foundation also initiates and inter-connects projects with the same defined target to form clusters. Thus it regularly develops new, temporary focal points for its grantmaking activities taken from the overview of ongoing projects.
Wissenschaft Bewegen – Making Science Effective
The charter of GEBERT RÜF STIFTUNG founded in 1997 states the foudation’s purpose as “driving Switzerland as a site for economic activities and as an attractive place to live“. It has an annual grant budget of around 10 million Swiss francs. The foundation supports projects at Swiss universities and other institutions of higher education by promoting innovation through the funding of new approaches and thus fosters the development of promising next-generation academics. The focus is on effective, high quality initiatives. Although the foundation is not running the projects, it takes an active part in the project design and implementation.
Promoting Tomorrow’s Talents Today
Taking advantage of its special position as a private, non-institutional and politically independent organization, GEBERT RÜF STIFTUNG finances and supports educational and research projects with outstanding pioneering potential and promotes interdisciplinary knowledge transfer. It is not intended as a source of funding for projects that aim to optimize existing approaches following the “bigger-better-faster-more” mode. The focus is on ambitious initiatives led by scientific project managers who are committed and eager to effect change.
Shaping the Future
GEBERT RÜF STIFTUNG intends to provide groundbreaking, fresh impetus to science and society. For this reason, the Foundation places top priority on synergizing and networking individual projects, which are in turn anchored to specific fields of activity. In order to achieve this, the Foundation employs its resources in a flexible yet focused manner. Its aim is neither long-term nor serial financing of projects, and support for its fields of activity is provided for a limited time only. GEBERT RÜF STIFTUNG sees itself not as a mere sponsor or distributor of funds, but as a partner and an active member of the project team. Thus, conventional grant allocation goes hand-in-hand with strategic and effective action.
Driving Innovation
GEBERT RÜF STIFTUNG does not wish to simply finance existing and tested activities, to replace discontinued funding from government or private sources or to provide residual financing. Neither does the Foundation award educational scholarships. It is far more committed to providing project-related startup financing and to funding projects with seminal or keystone potential; i.e. initiatives which can be a critical factor triggering broader impact. The Foundation aims to use its limited resources as a form of risk financing subject to on-going evaluation, to provide a platform for pioneering approaches and help get novel pilot projects off the ground.

PubMed
PubMed, available via the NCBI Entrez retrieval system, was developed by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) at the National Library of Medicine (NLM), located at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH). Entrez is the text-based search and retrieval system used at NCBI for services including PubMed, Nucleotide and Protein Sequences, Protein Structures, Complete Genomes, Taxonomy, OMIM, and many others. PubMed provides access to citations from biomedical literature. LinkOut provides access to full-text articles at journal Web sites and other related Web resources. PubMed also provides access and links to the other Entrez molecular biology resources.
Publishers participating in PubMed electronically submit their citations to NCBI prior to or at the time of publication. If the publisher has a web site that offers full-text of its journals, PubMed provides links to that site as well as biological resources, consumer health information, research tools, and more. There may be a charge to access the text or information.
Use the Batch Citation Matcher to match citations to PubMed using bibliographic information such as journal, volume, issue, page number, and year, or the Entrez Programming Utilities that provide access to Entrez data outside of the regular Web query interface.
PubMed Coverage
PubMed provides access to bibliographic information that includes MEDLINE, as well as:
- The out-of-scope citations (e.g., articles on plate tectonics or astrophysics) from certain MEDLINE journals, primarily general science and chemistry journals, for which the life sciences articles are indexed for MEDLINE.
- Citations that precede the date that a journal was selected for MEDLINE indexing.
