BALTIMORE -- A 6-year-old girl from Turkey with two rare disorders is getting a chance at survival thanks to doctors at Johns Hopkins Children's Center.

The girl was born with a heart and brain condition, and doctors said they're hopeful that a surgery on Monday will help her get well.

Kubra and her father are from Istanbul, Turkey, and are staying at the Believe in Tomorrow House across from the Children's Center.

Kubra was born with a condition called Moyamoya, which causes insufficient blood flow in her brain. She has already had two strokes, leaving her weak on her left side.

She also has a rare congenital heart defect, and together, the two conditions are a medical catastrophe that her father was told couldn't be treated in Turkey.

"We knocked on every door that is possible for her and her disease to get help," her father said.

Thanks to an anonymous donor, Kubra is getting the help she needs in Baltimore. Doctors said she's had surgery to fix a narrowing in her aorta with a stent that instantly improved blood flow, reducing the risk of high blood pressure.

To treat the Moyamoya, pediatric neurosurgeon Dr. Edward Ahn said her surgery on Monday is designed to give the brain new blood vessels from a new source of blood.
