Becky Takes on Jump Challenge

By Mark Welford

Two Daredevil Teesside funeral arrangers are going head-to-head in a race to raise cash for their chosen charity.

The friendly rivals are planning a 10,000ft parachute jump and although it’s all in good fun Rebekah Taylor is taking the competition very seriously.

She spotted that fellow Fairways Funeral Group employee Adam Hampton planned to jump for The Parkinson’s Disease Society in the Evening Gazette and decided to give him a run for his money.

Becky, 20, said: “I saw it in the newspaper and thought we can make more money. I’m quite a competitive person anyway, if I lose at Monopoly I do cry or flip my lid.”

Becky has an extra role as charity co-ordinator for the funeral directors but this is the first time she has taken on anything like this.

She said: “I’m quite extreme anyway, and turning into a bit of an adrenaline junkie, but as the day draws nearer I’m getting a bit more nervous.”

She is raising the money for Unique, the rare chromosome disorder support group.

The charity supports and brings together families or individuals who are affected by any rare chromosome disorder. It’s a charity close to Becky’s heart as her sister Olivia suffers from a rare disorder which causes seizures and means she has a younger mental age than her 14 years.

Becky from Bedale, said: “Unique is an absolutely amazing charity and that’s why I want to make as much as I can. Without people’s donations and support Unique wouldn’t exist.

“I have to raise at least £400 in cash to do the jump but my target is going to be £1000. It’s a hard target to reach but it will be worth it.”

Both thrill-seekers are jumping at Peterlee parachute centre on July 11. “It’s just a case of who jumps first,” added Becky.

To sponsor Becky call 01642 700208 or visit www.justgiving.com/rebekahtaylor1

Sponsorship money can also be taken to HW Carter funeral service, 10 East End, Stokesley.
