Advances in ataxia research are occurring at a rapid pace. Given the breadth of pathogenic processes, methods of evaluation, and clinical and basic science approaches that pertain to ataxia research, there is a clear need for a continued forum, namely AIM2010, at which these multifaceted elements of ataxia research can be presented and links between these diverse elements can be fostered. The goals are as follows: 1) To facilitate communication among investigators of the various types of ataxia. 2) To stimulate the initiation of collaborative research between investigators worldwide. 3) To facilitate communication between basic science and clinical investigators 4) To provide trainees and junior investigators with an opportunity to interact with established ataxia investigators.
